SUMMIT TLA 100
Saturday, May 23, 2009
The TLA 100 is a very colorful and vivacious compressor. It’s very simple to use, 2 knobs for gain and reduction and 2 switches for controlling attack and release. One thing I like about this compressor is that it doesn’t waste my time. It works for my lead vocals about 50% of the time, when it doesn’t work on the vocal, i can tell quickly and I move on to the next step in the mix. Unlike a distressor which you could fiddle with for a hot minute before you realize if it’s gonna work or not. When the TLA 100 works on the vocal it sounds very expensive.
The only thing limiting my use of this box is the attack and release switches, I wish they were sweepable so that I could place the compression tales right in pocket.
PROS
-great color, sounds expensive
-very easy to use
-great for tracking and mixing
CONS
-doesn’t work for every song
One of my favorite Summit Audio products
