SUMMIT DCL 200
Saturday, May 23, 2009

I’m infamous in Miami for using every compressor in the room when I do a mix.  When I start running out of compressors I’m forced to try ones that I don’t really like.  That’s been my story with this DCL 200.  I’ve tried it like 50 times.  It’s a lot of work, a lot of knobs, and I’m never ecstatic about the end result.  It always sounds grainy to me.  I guess I can’t really compare it to compressors like the Chandler and the 33609 because it’s so much cheaper.  But honestly that’s what it sounds like to me, it very difficult for me to make it sound expensive.
Maybe it’s me, let me know.  If anybody has any tips for me on this box hit me up.  I’m always eager to learn.  Does the slope knob control the compression ratio?
PROS
-cheap
-gives you complete control of all of it’s compression functions, no notches
CONS
-grainy
-a lot of work for a decent sound
-doesn’t sound expensive to me
Some major engineers use this box, I don’t really get it.
