DISTRESSOR EL-8 & DISTRESSOR EL-8X
Saturday, May 23, 2009
I’m so dependent on this box that I can’t even do a mix without it. It sounds so ridiculously good on almost every instrument you put it on. It doesn’t always work for me on lead vocals, but when it does it’s amazing, super professional. You can choose different types of distortion by pressing the audio button, that’s what it’s all about. You can really change the color of a sound with that button. This is one of those boxes that can “save” a crappy sound, so just imagine what it can do to a great sound.
I love how I can dial in the attack and release, it gives me complete control, I love it. These new EL-8X versions have a switch that does 1:1 British Mode, but I don’t even need that function. If I’m sending a sound to this box intend to compress the hell out of it, that’s what this box is for.
PROS
-essential for analog mixing engineers
-gives you complete control of the compression
-creates great tones with switchable distortion
CONS
-doesn’t always work well on vocals
If you don’t have a distressor in your SSL room, then I need to book a different studio.
